Datu Haji Abang Halmi bin Ikhwan

PROFILE
Datu Haji Abang Halmi bin Ikhwan has an academic background with a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) from the University of Malaya (1972) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Leuven, Belgium (1978). He has received various awards, including the Pingat Perkhidmatan Bakti (PPB) in 1985, Johan Bintang Kenyalang (JBK) in 1991, and Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak (DJBS) in 2002.
His extensive working experience spans several decades, beginning as an Administrative Officer at Bank Negara Malaysia in February 1972. He later served as an Economist with Sarawak Economic Development Corporation and held the position of General Manager of BDA from September 1983 to April 1992. Subsequently, he served as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Resource Planning Sarawak (April 1992-January 1996) and the Ministry of Rural and Land Development Sarawak (January 1996-2002), retiring from government service on July 12, 2003.
Datu Haji Abang Halmi has held various appointments, including being a Board Member of Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS) since 2021 and a Member of the Economic Action Council (National) from 2020 to 2022. He is currently a Member of the Economic Action Council (Sarawak) since 2020 and Vice President of Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) since 2019. Additionally, he has been serving as the President of Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak (DUBS) since 2009 and as a Director of Taan Plantation Bhd since 2008.
His involvement in various boards and committees includes being a Member of the Bumiputra Participation Committee of Sarawak Energy Bhd since May 2015, a Board Member of Lembaga Baitulmal Sarawak since 2011, and an Executive Director of Nursinar Group of Companies (a family property development company) since 2003. He has also been a Director/Managing Director of Custodev Sdn Bhd (CSB), a property development company, since 1985.
